Rebuilding the city - Design E03

By focusing an analysis on one special aspect of zurich, we should rebuild the city for the better.

The analysis proved the places by the mouth of the lake into the Limmat to be horribly disconnected from the lake by an immense amount of traffic.

In order to alter the way the city (especially the buildings) is connected with the water there were to ways. Either the buildings reached directly to the water, leaving no space the could be cut away by traffic, or - the much more appealing possibilty - the water reaches right into the city cutting off all those traffic polluted places, leading to a "new" type of house (wich does allready exist only one time in whole zurich): The ground floor shifts slightly inside the building providing space underneath the first floor, which is seperated by arcades from the lake an works as pedestrian precinct, providing public places such as restaurants, shops or cafes.

The final Submission consisted of these two analysis, the thesis, the proposed new building typology and an A0 fitting hand drawn picture showing the new situation.
