A Hat - Construction E01

This one was my first Exercise in Construction.Thinking of architectural constructiothe first thing coming to my mind might not exactly be a hat, but obviously that's what comes to the lecturer's. Due to the large number of students we formed groups of three and every group chanced on a random material to contruct a hat by the end of the day.
My group had to struggle with a numerous amount of rattanthreads. After a quick brainstorming on how to handle the material and where to find its strengths and weaknesses, we decided to start braiding three strings of rattan, every string about 4 meters long. The first concept was to get a spiral-formed thingy similar to some strange hairdress. As wrapping proved too difficult, we spontanously came up with a much better idea.

Our hat should consist of growing circles, all held together in one point and stabilized by two crosssections of braided rattan, all ending up in that fancy looking bunch rearside. It took us quite a while to get the shape we imagined and to solve the problem of how to fix the hat on one's had.
After submission, the assistance surprisingly came up with a real-like fashion-show. There was a cat-walk, spots a DJ and a professional photographer and one unlucky member of each and every team had to present the hat to the audience (which by the way not only consisted of students, but lecturers, some students from higher semesters and from Sao Paolo and from some more lectures from there). It was most impressive, how many and how different hats we were able to design and construct in only 6 ours. Sadly the pictures taken by the photographer are not online yet, but I will post them as soon as I stumble over them. Meanwhile I post the ones, we submitted.
